Research Paper

This paper claims about the Missouri River’s environmental problems. First, it argues that we should research more information. And second one is we should announce the information to people. The last is we should do the right behavior, if we know the way.

A dam is a structure that can block the river. There are many reasons to build one on a river. For example, they build some to service water for agriculture, family or factory, but the Missouri River’ dams are used for other reasons. They also use water for reservoir and leisure. In my hometown there are many dams, too. On the contrary, the dams are built for survival in the summer, when we have too much rain, and in the other seasons, when we don’t have enough water. So we must save some water for the other seasons. My home country’s dams were built in order to save our lives. But the Missouri dams are used for just a few people. Many people argue that the Missouri River must be used by all of Missouri residents. “The Missouri River’s waters belong to all of us. No states should be able to make such far-reaching decisions without agreement from – or even consultation with – its downstream neighbors” (St. Louis Post-Dispatch, 2004). Many researchers claim that the Crops of Engineer must allow more water to flow to preserve the river environments, because if the Crops don’t allow more water to flow in the river, the river’s environment will be changed, and in this process, many kinds of creatures will disappear. Many people think that we should protect the environment, but unfortunately these days it doesn’t go the right way, and the Corps also wants to maintain this situation. They keep the situation based on ‘the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s 2000 final biological Opinion’ as its foundation (Smith, 2003). But there are new reasons to let more water flow in the river, such as the scientific and public consensus on Missouri Rive management, the National Academy of Sciences (2002) and the fish and wildlife management agencies (2003) (Smith, 2003). They have been arguing about which thing is better for the river environment.

In the Missouri River there are many environmental programs. In North Dakota, they are building a construction of pipelines and canals to provide water from Devil’s Lake to the Sheyenne River (St. Louis Post-Dispatch, 2004). But there are some problems. Devil’s Lake is not a real lake. It is made by the rainfall, not flow. So to maintain the Devil Lake water, the Missouri River will support the water. But the Missouri River has a problem of lack of water nowadays. When the construction starts to be built, Missouri River researchers think the river will have more water than the river requires, but nowadays, they are finding new thing of the environment; first they think the wetland must be preserved. Second, the water flowing is necessary in the river. For these reason, present researchers finally define that the Missouri River needs water to maintain its own environmental condition.

I think we should change the policies of things that make the Missouri River threatened. If we don’t do that at an early time, we will not have a chance to fix it. The environment is easy to degrade, but it is very hard to recover it. We have to know more things about our environmental situation, and predict the future to avoid the dangerous situation.

First, we have to search for more information to figure out or predict the future. To change the policies, we have to know how much water the environment needs to preserve itself, what time we should flow the water, what kinds of species are going to disappear, and how much goods we will lose. For instance, if we know the exact money we lost, we can compare the price and choose the most efficient way. Like this we can predict some future ways and choose the best, but if we don’t know about the way we go, we can select a bad way.

To find these resources we should know about the Missouri River and also other river, too. Just looking at the Missouri River can make our vision smaller and smaller; looking for our rivers solution can lead us. For example, in my hometown our government tried to make an extra dam to make reservoirs, but many people argued about the problems of this dam, and many people tried to stop the building. Persisting with this situation for one year, the government gave into the conservation groups and cancelled damming the river. Like this, if we know about some cases which cancel the damming the river, we know how to persuade the government and know the way we have to follow.

When we find some information, we have to arrange the information to get easy and show the facts. If we have a lot of information, but it hasn’t been analyzed, we can’t find the answer. But sometimes analyzing the information can be difficult. Some information can be extremely different with the same resources. And some resources can’t be believed, because researchers can mistake something, or the resources can be changed after few years.

Second, knowing yourself is not enough, you have to tell this situation for your neighborhood and other people. They also must know about this situation, because if many people get the same opinion about something, it will be easer to make the opinion come true, and many people will argue this situation, and get the most efficient and best way. Knowing a lot of people also make it easy to persuade the people who support the opposite side, because, for example there is ten people solving the question in the class, nine students think the answer is money, and only one person thinks the answer is environment, the person who chooses the environment answer, will change his opinion, because it can be more frequent getting an incorrect answer for one person than getting a incorrect answer for nine persons.

Today, many medias announce the problems. So many people can know the problems of the Missouri River. But today there are some people who don’t know the problems of the Missouri River, even though they live near the Missouri River. We have to tell them the danger of Missouri River’s environment; therefore they can avoid the disaster, and also we feel good to help other people and save some life.

Last, after we get the idea, we should do something, such as send a letter to the Corps, government or some associations, which have the power to affect this situation. Or we can preserve the environment ourselves, by planting more trees, saving more products, etc. Some groups of conservationists are keeping the fight in court to save the Missouri River, to save biodiversity, and find some opportunity on the riverfront (U.S. Newswire, 2004). And some groups also try to find the agreement which can be admitted from the U.S. Army Corps (U.S. Newswire, 2004). Some government people also help us. Sens. Daschle, Johnson, and Rounds are sending a letter to the president to solve the problems, and they also try to solve these problems with their power (States News Service, 2004).

It is also good for you travel to the Missouri River, and face how the Missouri River is getting worse. One writer traveled all of the Missouri River and wrote something of the Missouri River (King, 2004). She said the Missouri River is the blessed river, because the river is 2,500 miles long (King, 2004). And in some places of river is a thousand feet wide (Allen, 2004). We got a good river and we just have to protect the Missouri River’s environment. If we change the environment of the Missouri River, we can have the possibility of losting the blessed river. So we should keep the Missouri River.

In conclusion, we should preserve our Missouri River. Changing the environment makes the situation very worse. If we really want to change our environment, we should research more things and after we know how to change it, we should be careful about touching the environmental situations.

My favorite performer

I like a Korean singer, whose name is Kim C. Especially I like the way which he make his nickname. His last name is Kim, and usually Korean friends speak each other just their last name like mister Lee , mister Kim, mister Park. In Korea the word “mister” speak like “see”, and he just change the meaning of mister to “C”. Like this, I like his lifestyle, little weird and enjoyable.
He is in the band, named firing potato. Their style is almost punk. Unfortunately they no hit song, but every weekend they have a concert in a small club. I went there a few times. It was fantastic. I recommend you to go.

Dear computer

You are mine; I spent 400 ducks to buy you, therefore you must obey my order, if it is silly things, but why re you always disappointing me? I just want to play games and want to do explorer. Did I do something wroing to you (I think you answer will be no)? So why do you hate me? If you keep doing this way, I will throw you in the garbage can and buy a new and pretty good one, but actually I don't have enough money and I don't like betraying you either. So let's find the way to improve our relationship.
You hvae to control yourself. If you have a virus in you, you should clean it up and make you work. You should do something to make me happy. For instance, you can do stock, wich can make money or making new games.
If you do this, I will never throw you away, and keep for forever, if you do this. I will we see each other with happy faces.

The Missouri river

A dam is a structure which can block the river. They are many reasons to build one on a river. For example, they build one to service the water for agriculture, family or factory, but the Missouri River’s wasn’t built for those reasons. It’s not fair. Unlike this situation, in my hometown there are many dams, because in the summer we have too much rain and the other seasons we don’t have enough water. So we must save some water for the other seasons. My home country’s dams were built in order to save our lives. But the Missouri dams are used for just a few people. I think the Missouri River must be used by all of Missouri residents. I think the Crops must flow more water to preserve the river environments, because if we don’t flow more water in the river, the river’s environment will be changed, and in this process many kinds of creature will be disappeared. We should protect the environment, but unfortunately these days it doesn’t go the right way, and the Corps also wants to maintain this situation. Also, according to Chad, they keep the situation with ‘the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s 2000 final biological Opinion’ as its foundation. But according to Chad, there are new reasons to flow more water in the river, such as the scientific and public consensus on Missouri Rive management, the National Academy of Sciences (2002) and the fish and wildlife management agencies (2003). They have been arguing about which thing is better for the river environment.

Trying to control the Missouri River makes environmental problems, so the Corps of Engineers should let the river alone. But it is hard to change the Corps intention of the Missouri River’ flow. To persuade the Corps we should do several things.

First, we should research more about the Missouri River. We should know how many species are dying and what kinds of species have disappeared, and also know the affect to human when the environment is changed. We should do research more specifically to persuade the Corps. For example we should know the exact amount of water we need to protect the species, and we should know the value of species which can disappear. To know this thing we should do more research.

More and more people should be told about this problem. We should let Missouri residents know about the problems. If many people know about the problem, more argument will be made, and we can have more ways to choose. To make this situation, we should broadcast on the TV and newspaper. I think the broadcast must focus on the danger to human health when the environment is changed, because people don’t have attention when it is not serious or harmful for them. After people know the danger of the river, they will have more interest in the river and also try to figure out the problem.

Just knowing the problem doesn’t make the river protected. We should know the value of nature. We should know that the environment can’t recover when it is destroyed. They just degrade the pollution and moderate the environment. Most people don’t know the potential good in nature. For example, aspirin comes from plants. If we don’t protect the species which has the raw material of aspirin, many people must die by fever.

I think we should destroy or stop the dam. Making the dam is not promoting our environment, it will just change the environment and kill the species which can be essential in the future.

The problem of Missouri River

Research Paper Proposal

A dam is a structure which can block the river. They are many reasons to build one on a river. For example, they build one to service the water for agriculture, family or factory, but the Missouri River’s dam wasn’t built for those reasons. I think The Corps of Engineers wanted to control the environment and make reservoirs for rich people. It’s not fair. Unlike this situation, in my hometown there are many dams, because in the summer we have too much rain and the other seasons we don’t have enough water. So we must save some water for the other seasons. My home country’s dams were built in order to save our lives, but the Missouri dam are used for just a few people. I think the Missouri River must be use by all of Missouri residents. I think the Corps must flow more water to preserve the river environment, but unfortunately these days it doesn’t go the right way, and the Crops also wants to maintain this situation. Also, according to Lincoln, they keep the situation with ‘the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s 2000 final biological Opinion’ as its foundation. But according to Lincoln, there are new reasons to flow more water in the river, such as the scientific and public consensus on Missouri River management, the National Academy of Sciences (2002), and the fish and wildlife management agencies (2003). Till now they have been arguing about which thing is better for the river environment.

I think we should have more research about the Missouri River. We should find the very specific reason to persuade the Corps, that flowing more water is good for the river environment. If you don’t flow more water, some species will be exterminated. We should also check out how much water flow the river needed.

We should tell the Corps about the problems. They maybe don’t think seriously about the environmental problems. So we should tell them with a lot of research. We should also tell the problems to public who don’t know about the river problems or don’t know what they are exactly.

I think we should destroy the dam. Making the dam is not promoting our environment, and it is not made for essential reasons, as in my country. In Missouri state I think the dam is not necessary, because the weather is good; we don’t have to control it.

To protect upstreaming

EAP2
Robert Lee

In this article which is made by States News Service, the author mainly discusses the problem of the upstream pant of the Missouri River. In this article there are three person, named M. Michael Rounds (Governor), Tim Johnson (United Stats Senator) and Tom Daschle (United Stats Senator), who have claims that we must solve the problem upstream, and protect the Missouri River. They wrote letter to President Bush with this issue. The answer is that the Missouri River Master Water Control Manual has already been signed, and if you want to change the manual you must suggest a specific and clear policy.

In my opinion, we should preserve the Missouri River. Changing the environment sometimes can make a problem, and if the environment changes for a minority, it is terrible.

The majority is more important than the minority. Reducing the river water for the rich and few people can damage all the people who live near the Missouri River. This is not fair; therefore, we should force the Corps to let more water flow in the river rather than make the reservoirs.

We must always take care of the environment. Sometimes changing the environment is very dangerous. It can make a harmful thing for human, and it can also make people angry. For example, some people who work in fishing in the Missouri River can lose their job, because the corps has reduced the water, and his fish are extinguished.

The environment can’t be recovered exactly as before. We can purify the environment better than now, but we can’t make our environment like 15c. The pollutants will not disappear but just get to a lower degree that can’t harm us, and we don’t have enough scientific surveys to prevent the pollutants. For example, ozone is a good thing, because it protects us form the ray, but if the ozone come near the surface of the earth, where we live, it can harm us very much. Its disinfection is so strong that it can even kill humans.

The Environment is very good for us, but if we change or pollute the environment, it can be a disaster. Therefore we should not change the environment of the river, either.

We must preserve the Missouri River

EAP2

We must preserve the Missouri River

This article which is written by Chad Smith, is focused on the Missouri River. This mainly argues about the Missouri River’s big dams. In this article conservation groups and the U.S Army Corps of Engineers are discussing dam reforms. The groups want the dam reforming and the Corps is against it. The reasons are that the groups, ideas are based on new reports, and Corps is based on old one. Many of the public, newspapers and governors have agreed to reforming the dams.

This problem is separated into twoside. One is the Corps and the other are environmental groups. And I think environmental groups’ idea is good for me and us, because they can save more money, and will prevent a bad image of the river, and we can lose something that can’t be recovered.

First, Reforming the dams will be more benefit than leaving them alone. Polluting the River is easier than cleaning the river. When the river is polluted we should spend a great amount of money to refresh the river. If it is done later and later, we should spend more and more money to fix the river. However, if we prepare for it, we can save a lot of money that is wasted in cleaning up the river. In its actual condition, cleaning rivers take too much time, and this wouldn’t make it clear. So we should reform the dam and prevent the river dirty.

Someone can see us badly, based on the dirty river. For example, some foreigners come here to see the Missouri River, and they can think badly of the Missouri residents, because they saw the dirty water. They can think that Missouri people have a blessed river but the residents didn’t care about the river. As a result we can have a disadvantage in business and political work.

Some things can’t be recovered. If some child drink the water, he can get sick. And we can also lose the specific fish that have good potential. They can also take away the remembrance that is related with river and good experience of your life. Nobody wants to live in a bad situation that can cause a wrong thing in our life. We should guard against it.

We should keep the Missouri River clean. The dirty river can make our children sick and kill a whole species of fish in the river, and give us a bad images. We should reform the dam and keep our health and pride.
